Family Therapy

Family therapy focuses on changes within a family and recognizes that family relationships have an impact on the feelings and behaviour of every family member. Here at Inner Counselling, as much as possible, we encourage the involvement of all family members in the therapy process.

When to Seek Help

Family dynamics are some of the most complicated relationships to navigate, especially since circumstances are constantly changing. With new additions, the loss of a loved one, and differences in opinions, is it any wonder that family members struggle to get along sometimes? But while day-to-day disagreements are part of life, more serious conflicts can place a strain on the unit as a whole.

Therapy can be instrumental in helping families understand how their relationships work and how this can impact the way the family deals with both everyday routines and major crises. Here at Inner Counselling, our therapists partner with our clients to help foster understanding and respect for one another. The process can take time, but we can help you reach your goal to unite as a family. And if you’re part of a blended family, we have a great deal of experience navigating the dynamics that can arise when stepparents, step-siblings and half-siblings are involved. Crossing the Generation Gap

Many of our clients at Inner Counselling reach out to us for help managing cross-generational interactions, usually from parent to teenager, although it can sometimes work the other way around. We have also conducted sessions involving adult children and their elderly parents, as well as grandparents and their grandchildren.

We generally find that most issues stem from the differences in outlook across generations. We help children see eye-to-eye with their parents, while respecting their differences and opinions. We can also help identify destructive behaviours that have been handed down from generation to generation, and steps that can be taken to resolve these issues. Ready to book a session?
