Youth Therapy
How Can Youth Therapy Help?
Youth therapy is meant to help young adolescents and teenagers deal with a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia and more. It can also help with more troubling behaviours such as eating disorders, self-harm and lack of self-worth.
By working with one of the incredibly compassionate therapists at Inner Counselling, we can empower teens and their parents to:
- Get treatment for anxiety, depression and other concerns
- Learn to communicate with each other and resolve conflicts
- Resolve the underlying issues causing teens to self-harm
- Parents can learn to recognize warning signs and take the appropriate steps to help
- Younger siblings can also learn how to live with an older sibling with mental health issues.
A safe outlet for teens with serious mental health issues
What to Expect From Therapy
When embarking on youth therapy, the first step is the initial evaluation, where Inner Counselling’s expert team will assess whether your concerns are founded. While most Canadian provinces do allow a child to seek help on their own, our youth therapy sessions often involve at least one other family member, and it is important that the patient feels supported.
The structure and number of sessions will depend on the circumstances. There will be times where group sessions will be conducted with the entire family, while there may be times when the therapist will speak with the teen alone. Anything that is discussed in these one-to-one sessions are kept strictly confidential, unless there are concerns for the safety of the patient or others.
We make sure to find the best solution to your teen’s issues
Growing up is hard enough, even without mental health issues.
